Harry Templer Widdicombe was a railway express agent and wharfinger. He lived at 958 Denman Street in 1900. (Although the 1900 Vancouver directory says that the address was 954 Denman Street, other documents indicate that the correct house number was 958).

Harry was born in Hyderabad, India on October 16, 1864. His father was Colonel William Widdicombe (about 1825-1875), who was with the Bombay Staff Corps and was a judge of the District Court at Kurrachee (now called Karachi, Pakistan). Harry’s mother was Annie (her surname was possibly Templer).

In 1871, Harry was living in Collumpton, Devonshire, England.
On February 14, 1888, in Jacobstow, Cornwall, England, Harry married Elizabeth Letitia Batchelor. Elizabeth was born in Cornwall, England (probably at Jacobstow) on August 17, 1865. Her father was Frederick Thomas Batchelor (about 1827-1897), who studied at Wadham College, Oxford and became rector at Jacobstow. Elizabeth’s mother was Charlotte Salusbury Trelawney (about 1829-1894). Elizabeth’s grandfather was Sir William Salusbury Trelawny, who was a baronet in England.
One of Elizabeth’s sisters, Charlotte Levinna Batchelor (1870-1960), married Stanley McNab Henderson (1864-1942), who was the provincial manager for the Imperial Life Assurance Company. He lived at 901 Chilco Street from 1919 to 1924, and at 1933 Robson Street from 1925 to 1942.
Another sister, Anne Batchelor, (1867-1963), was a Christian Science practitioner who lived at 1834 Barclay Street from 1920 to 1939.
It appears that, by the end of 1888, Harry and Elizabeth were living in what is now Alberta, when their daughter Evelyn was born. (Evelyn married Henry Treise Morshead in London, England, in 1917. Henry was born in 1882. He was involved in the 1921 reconnaissance expedition to Mount Everest; he died on May 17, 1931 in Mayamo, Burma. Evelyn may have lived in England until her death in 1978.)
In February 1889, Harry received three portions of homestead land grants of land.
Harry and Elizabeth had another daughter, Winnifred Letitia Widdicombe, who was born in London, Ontario, on May 19, 1890.
By 1891, Harry and Elizabeth were living in the Upper Kootenay district of British Columbia.
The 1898 British Columbia voters list showed Harry as a mine foreman in New Denver, British Columbia. However, the list had him as a train baggageman who was living at 1123 Barclay Street in Vancouver.
On April 16, 1900, the Widdicombe family took part in the wedding of Stanley McNab Henderson to Charlotte Levinna Batchelor.
On February 20, 1900, Harry and Elizabeth had a son, Lewis Trelawney Widdicombe, who was born at 958 Denman Street. In 1904, Elizabeth and the children appeared in the immigration records at Quebec City, Quebec; they were sailing on a ship called “Bavarian,” which had sailed from Liverpool, England.
In 1901, “Harry T. Widincombe” was living at 579 Burrard Street; he was working for Dominion Express.
In 1904, “Harry W. Widdicombe” was rooming at 318 Burrard Street; he was an accountant.
In 1905, “Harry T. Widdicombe” was rooming at 815 Burrard Street; he was a clerk.
It appears that Harry and Elizabeth were divorced. On April 8, 1915, in Los Angeles, California, Harry married Catherin Amelia Odell. She was born in Indiana about 1878. Her father was J.H. (or I.H.) Odell, who was born in Indiana; her mother was A.E. Nugent, who was born in Louisiana.
It appears that Elizabeth lived in London, England, and that she died in London in 1933.
In 1919, Lewis Trelawny Widddicombe became a second lieutenant in the Indian Army.
