Chauncey's vintage cars were well-known throughout Montana. He was one of the founding members of the Montana Pioneer and Classic Auto Club. His restoration work dealt mostly with steam-powered vehicles. He organized the auto club in 1955 and later turned over its charter to the state club with the Great Falls club calling itself the "Skunk Wagon" chapter.
Chauncey worked as a messenger for Western Union until 1931, when he went to work for the Anaconda Co. He was a grounds keeper, worked for Home Oil, operated the Cozy Corner Cafe, was a journeyman plumber, an engineer at the Ford Building, and owner and operator of Alaskaway Trailer Court & Motel. He retired in 1969.
