Richard Goldsmith

Note: the birth year given is a rough approximation; no burial record has been found for Richard, but he is likely buried in the old town cemetery in Wenham, where he lived and died.

Richard was an early settler of Wenham, Mass., and joined the church there in 1648. He was married c. 1643 to Mary, whose surname may have been Perkins. He was killed by lightning in Wenham 18 May 1673, after which his widow married 25 Nov 1674 John Abbie. Children, born or baptized in Wenham:

* Sarah, baptized 14 5 mo 1650 (14 July 1650), m. 29 Sep 1668 Jonathan BILES.

* John, b. c. 1654, d. Cutchogue, Suffolk, NY April 1703, m. (1) Nov 1679 Prudence WINES, b. c. 1655, d. 17 Feb 1680/1, daughter of Barnabas Wines and Anna Eddy; m. (2) 2 May 1683 Anna WELLS; m. (3) 2 Feb 1696/7 Elizabeth TUTHILL, b. Southhold, NY 19 April 1661, d. there 1705.

* Hannah, b. 4 March 1657/8

* Zaccheus, b. 1662, m. Martha HUTTON.

* Thomas, b. c. 1670, d. Southhold, NY 6 Nov 1706, aged 36, m. Bethia TERRY, b. 13 Sep 1672, d. 11 Oct 1739, she buried Southhold Cemetery. They had five children born 1696 to 1704.
