Josiah Greenleaf Dole
(25 Dec 1825 - 19 Apr 1903)
Mr. Dole, during his residence in Beatrice, had been engaged almost exclusively as a florist with Mrs. Dole and sons, the firm being operated under the name of the former, Sarah H. Dole. He was regarded as an industrious, hardworking man, and his many friends in this vicinity will be, shocked to learn of his death. He is survived by his wife and six children, four sons and two daughters.
The funeral services will beheld this afternoon at 2:30 from the family home under the auspices of the Masonic order of which the deceased was an honored member. Interment in Evergreen Home cemetery.

Josiah G. Dole, who was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, December 25, 1825, joined the military police, or home guard, at the outbreak of the Civil war, was made first lieutenant and continued in active service until the close of the war. He came to Nebraska in 1867, the year that marked the admission of the state to the Union, and he settled in Seward county.
In 1868-1869 he was there engaged in the manufacturing of brick, and some of the brick was used in the construction of the first brick chimneys in the city of Lincoln. In 1869 Mr. Dole wedded Miss Sophia Hooker, and they became the parents of five children...
