Jerry Lester Ashcraft

JERRY LESTER ASHCRAFT, 81, devoted husband, father, son, and brother went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2013 in Dickinson, Texas. He was born January 30, 1932 in Angleton, Texas the first son of J.N. and Patricia Faye Oates Ashcraft. He grew up in Angleton and graduated from Angleton High School. He participated in many activities and was especially fond of the band where he played the trumpet. He later attended the University of Houston where his interest in math led to a career as an engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation for over forty years. He was a resident of League City for over fifty years. He along with his wife, Paula DeAnne Smith, raised their sons, Paul and David, in this community. Jerry participated in many community events and was noted for his success in bar-be-cue cook-offs. He was always interested in the youth of League City and guided many in their pursuits of raising animals and poultry.

Jerry is predeceased by his wife, Paula Smith Ashcraft, his father and mother, J.N. and Faye Ashcraft, his brother, John Paul Ashcraft, his maternal grandparents, Cera Green Oates Williams and William Henry Oates, and his paternal grandparents Viola Thompson Ashcraft and Henry Lester Ashcraft.

He is survived by his sons Paul L. Ashcraft and wife Tamela, of Parachute, Colorado and David C. Ashcraft of League City; his grandchildren Teagan Ashcraft, Alicia Ashcraft, Amber Ashcraft; great-grandchildren Harmony Ashcraft and Kaelan Ashcraft; his sister Kay A. Murray and husband James P. of Lake Jackson; niece Pam Jamison of Austin, nephews John C. Ashcraft and wife Kellie of Ennis and R. Heath Ashcraft and wife Nikki of Dickinson along with great nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 17 at the Crowder Funeral Home, 851 FM 517 W; Dickinson, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crowder Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Cole officiating. Interment will follow at the Angleton Cemetery, 328 Cemetery Road, Angleton where he will be placed alongside his maternal grandmother, Mubbie, Cera Green Oates Williams.

Paul L. Ashcraft, David C. Ashcraft, John C. Ashcraft, R. Heath Ashcraft, J. Hunter Kersh, and Benny Felts, III will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express special thanks to Hallmark hospice workers, who provided special care and love the last several months of his life.
