Individual Details
Sarah Porter
(Abt 1638 - )
This might be Sarah Proctor, who was tried for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692.
This might be Sarah Porter Dodge (1640?-1672), of Beverly, d. Ipswich (unconfirmed), wife of Capt. John Dodge (1635?-1722), of Beverly. They attended Second Church, North Beverly, and resided in Beverly.
Maiden name Porter, per Barbara Dodge from Dodge Family Association, dodgefamily.org, and Norman Dodge, also active here.
Maiden name Proctor, m. to John Dodge, son of William & Elizabeth, d. 28 Nov 1672 in Ipswich, per J. T. Dodge's Genealogy of the Dodge Family of Essex County, Mass., pub. Madison, Wisc., 1894.
Contrast with Sarah Proctor Dodge (1645?-1706), of Beverly & Wenham, wife of Lt. John Dodge (1630?-1711) of Beverly & Wenham. They attended First Church, downtown Beverly, and resided on Dodge's Row in Wenham, near the Beverly town line.
As late as 1900, many people in this area were more historically tied to Beverly than to Wenham, being descended of one of Beverly's first founders. They considered themselves part of a truer, larger, North Beverly, at times. And they also provided a "bridge of community" between North Beverly and Beverly Farms, prior to the Beverly Gold Coast era. There is also a "Wenham" perspective on each of these statements, for which I welcome, but cannot personally currently do justice.
