VALLEY, AL -- Mrs. Mary Lou Templeton Shaw, 83, of Valley died Wednesday, 10 July 2002 at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home in Valley. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, 12 July at 2 p.m. at Langdale United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Stonbraker officiating. Burial will follow in the Langdale Cemetery.
Mrs. Shaw is survived by her husband, Talton A. Shaw, Jr.; her daughter, Susan Shaw (Paul) Jensen of Woodstock, GA; her special nephew, Chris R. Shaw of Atlanta, GA; her granddaughter, Tara J. (Scott) Thompson of Signal Mountain, TN; her grandson, Patrick Shawn Jensen of Chattanooga, TN; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea Elizabeth Thompson and Jensen Andrews Thompson; her nephew, William L. (Kay) Ray Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Born 6 Nov 1918 in Langdale, AL, Mrs. Shaw was a graduate of Langdale High School. She lived her entire life in the Langdale community of Valley. Mrs. Shaw was a charter member of Langdale United Methodist Church, where she had served for 72 years in its ministry to the community and world. She served as a member of the choir, taught Sunday school in the youth department for many years, and was very active in the United Methodist Women. She also served in the missions and evangelism committees. She delighted in visiting shut-ins and sharing her special pound cake with them. Mrs. Shaw was employed with West Point Pepperell for 40 years and was a member of the office force for several years prior to her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be missed.
The family respectfully declines the gift of flowers and asks that memorials be made to the Langdale United Methodist Church Parsonage Fund, or other funds in her memory.
The family will receive friends Thursday, 11 July from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Langdale United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Valley.
Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley is handling arrangements.
