Marcus Ray McGee

Marcus Ray McGee of Northport, AL, known to his family and friends as "Mark", was born on December 26, 1959 and passed away June 11, 2022 at Hospice of West Alabama at the age of 62 after a tough battle with cancer. Services will be at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home 5434 Old Birmingham Highway, Tuscaloosa, AL at 2:30 PM (a time Mark frequently referenced) Thursday, June 16 with visitation beginning at 1:30 PM and burial at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service. Debra Downs will officiate the ceremony and the eulogy will be given by Charlie West.
Mark was preceded in death by his precious, young daughter, Claudia Kelley McGee; his grandparents, Sampson Eldridge "Gee" McGee, Nellie Colvin "Bobo" McGee, William "Claude" Ray, and Thelma Faye "Nana" Baker Ray.
He is survived by his parents, James E. “Buddy�?and Carolyn Ray McGee; two sons, James Marc “Gee�?McGee (Heather) and Jon Wesley McGee (Deana); his grandchildren, Emalee, Aiden, Ryder, Estes, and Marek; his siblings Elisa (David), Ashley (Sara), Chris (Miriam), and little sister Jennifer (Bo) who helped care for him and guide him through his medical journey; his nieces and nephews, Brett, Rachael, Meghan, Jason, Bryant and Walker; aunt, Gladys Ray; uncle, Billy Ray (Mary) and numerous cousins and great nieces and nephews.
Mark is also survived by his beloved Linda Dawson who steadfastly cared for him everyday throughout his cancer battle and whom he cared for and loved dearly for 18 years. They shared a love for their 18-year-old dog, Tipper, who passed away a few weeks before Mark. He is also survived by her sons, Jeremey and Jake (Melissa), grandchildren, Kathryn and Connor, and many other family members.
Mark grew up in Cottondale and was a lifelong member of Cottondale Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where he was baptized in his youth. This church is his family's home church with a rich history that started with his great, great grandfather and first minister B.F Hinton in 1885. He was very proud that his daughter, Claudia, made the sixth generation of his family line to be baptized there. Mark attended Cottondale Elementary School, Boteler Junior High and he graduated from Holt High School, class of 1978.
