Ruth Gushwa

Ruth Fenton, 82, of Portales, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at the Retirement Ranch in Clovis. She was born on Dec. 9, 1922, on a ranch at Lakewood, between Artesia and Carlsbad to Della Elizabeth Floyd and William Jefferson Gushwa.
She married Oliver Gibson Fenton on Dec. 11, 1947. She was a member of Third and Kilgore Church of Christ. She was a member of the South Star Club, East Valley View Club, and Homemaker's Club. Family members said she won many ribbons at the County Fair for her canning, baking and crafts and she took a great interest in politics, and worked at the polls for every election until her 80th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents; two brothers, George and John Gushwa; and a sister, Della Fay Rowland.
Survivors include a brother, Charles R. Gushwa of Lubbock; six nieces and four nephews, Judy Singleterry of Hobbs, Jerry Gushwa of Mineola, Texas, Wanda Hunt of Sterling, Va., Roy Gushwa of Mineola, Texas, Linda Rockwell of Fredericksburg, Va., Larry Gushwa of Arlington, Texas, Martha Fotopulos of Portales, Betty Dale of Denver, Colo. Radene Fuller of Lubbock, and Curtis Wright of El Paso, Texas.
David Bennett and Scott Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetary.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
