Daniel Lucien Craig

(17 Jan 1937 - 16 Jun 2008)

Daniel Lucien Craig, 71, succumbed to his courageous battle with emphysema on Monday, June 16, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family and Pastor Sharon Sabon. He lived his entire life in Highlands, Texas. He was born on January 17, 1937, in Baytown, Texas, to Robert Lucien Craig and Janie Jamison Craig. Dan was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church, Sampson Masonic Lodge, an Arabian Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a founding member of the Trinity Bay Saltwater Anglers League of Texas (SALT) Club, and a former member of the Highlands Rotary Club. He was a holder of several patents, and to the end was still working on new inventions. Dan graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, and attended Lee College and Sam Houston State University. He was a small business owner, and was responsible for starting the careers of many local men and women. As a fifties teenager, he was an avid "hot-rodder" and professional water skier. He even performed water ski shows in the Houston Shamrock Hilton swimming pool. Growing up adjacent to the Highlands Reservoir, Dan spent his childhood hunting and fishing. This lifestyle instilled a respect and love of nature, and because of this, his grandchildren reaped the benefits of his knowledge in later years. He enjoyed all things science related, and truly was a life-long learner. Dan was preceded in death by his wife of forty-seven years, Lynda Diane Craig, his parents, and his brother Bob Craig, all of Highlands. He is survived by his sons Doc Craig of Highlands, Wayne and wife Lisa Craig of Round Rock, Texas, Gene and wife Mechelle Craig of Katy, Texas, sisters Laura Pledger and Margaret Webb, sister-in law Marilyn Craig, father-in-law, Dr. Leon Halsted, all of Highlands, also sister-in-law, Mary Griffin, of Baytown. He is also survived by grandchildren Richie Stasney, Jennifer Stasney, Alayna Craig of Round Rock, Texas, Jordan Craig, Jenna Craig, and Jami Craig of Katy, Texas, many nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom loved him dearly, and will miss him greatly. The Craig family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Lincare of Baytown, Home Health Professionals, Sue Norris, and Regency Hospice. Their dedication and service to the family is greatly appreciated. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday June, 18, 2008 from 5-8pm at Sterling-White Funeral Home. A celebration of Dan's life will be held Thursday June 19, 2008 10am at Sterling-White Funeral Home with Pastor Sharon Sabom officiating. Services have been entrusted to Sterling-White Funeral home 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, Texas (281) 426-3555.
