Greer �?J.C. burgess, 58 of Greer Route 4, died Saturday morning in a Maryland hospital after a long illness.
A native of Reidville, he was a son of the late J.H. and Mattie Trotter Burgess. He lived in the Reidville community most of his life and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ruth Landruth Burgess; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Bagshaw of Greenville and Mrs. Mildred Searcy of Taylors; two sons, William J. Burgess of Greenville and S/Sgt. Arnold Burgess of the Air Force in England; one step-son, SFC Charles Booth of the Army in Germany; six brothers, Sampson and Taft Burgess, both of Woodruff, Henry of Spartanburg, Lawrence of Greenville, Ted of Greer and Herman of Clinton; four sisters, Mrs. Francis Carlton, Mrs. Edd Johnson, both of Woodruff, and Mrs. Sarah Blackston and Mrs. Nora Kemp, both of Charlotte, and eight grandchildren.
The body will be returned to Greer and Wood Mortuary will announce arrangements.
