Jerome "Jerry" Vavra, age 74 of Everson, WA., passed away on Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 in Lynden following a long illness.
Graveside services will be conducted by Carl "Spud" Bronkema on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 10:00 am in Nooksack Cemetery.
Jerry was the son of Joe and Anna Vavra and was born in Platte Center, Nebraska on April 19, 1930. He grew up in Nebraska and in 1947 joined the US Navy and was married to Marian Pike on September 24, 1949. During his nine years in the Navy, Jerry served on a number of vessels. He was an Everson resident for the past thirty-nine years and for more than twenty years was employed as a crane operator at Intalco Aluminum where he was also a member of Teamsters Local #231. He retired in 1993.
Jerry was an avid fisherman on the Nooksack River. He will be greatly missed by all his fishing buddies, but not the fish! He enjoyed his yard and garden, watching his sons and grandsons wrestle and putting up hay in Eastern Washington. He will also be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Peter and the staff at the Christian Health Care Center.
