Mrs. Joe L Davis Dies Suddenly
Mrs. Joe L Davis, a lifelong resident of Chickasaw county and a member of a well known Houston family, who died at her home here Saturday morning, Dec. 1, the victim of a heart attack, was laid to rest in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery Sunday afternoon. She was 75.
Mrs. Davis had just finished washing her breakfast dishes and had stepped to the rear door when she was stricken. She died instantly.
Services were conducted by the Rev. L P Jumper, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Houston. The Rev. Mr. Jumper read several of Mrs. Davis' favorite biblical passages, including the 23rd Psalm, and offered prayer. A mixed choral group sang two hymns. The body was then taken to Wesley Chapel for interment. Houston Funeral Home was in charge.
Pallbearers were: James Owen, Frank A Owen, Jack Owen, A E Davis, Howard Davis, and Ted Dillaha.
Was Active in Methodist Church
Mrs. Davis, the former Miss Carrie Lee Ingram, was a member of the Houston Methodist Church where, until recent years, she was one of the church's most active members. She was a former president of the Woman's Society of Christian Service, and a teacher of both the Matron's and teen-age boys classes.
She kept in constant touch with local, state and national affairs.
Mrs. Davis was born March 3, 1881, the daughter of the late J Wilburn Ingram, and Massie Rebecca Holladay Ingram.
Besides her husband, a former Chickasaw county chancery clerk, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. James Dulaney of Houston and Mrs. Lon Harley Smith of Alexandria, Va.; two sons, Wilburn F., of Gadsden, Ala., and Joe L., Jr., of Houston, Tex.; a sister, Mrs. F A Owen of Capleville, Tenn., seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
