Lillie Belle Seale

(2 May 1881 - 10 Jul 1952)

Rites Held for Mrs. Porter Davis
On last Friday afternoon saddened friends and relatives paid final tribute to Mrs. Lillie Seale Davis, who died early Thursday morning following a month's illness. The service was held in the stately home in which she was born 71 years ago and in which she quietly passed away. The solemn rites were conducted by the Rev. J R Grisham, pastor of the Methodist Church, and music was by the Methodist choir of which she was a member. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery with Barry in charge.
Serving as pallbearers were: Harry Laster, E H Latimer, A G Ritter, Dr. J C Luper, R V Nabors and Archie McDonnell.
Mrs. Davis, who had not been entirely well for some time, became seriously ill the night of June 12 and was rushed to a Memphis Hospital the following morning. Her daughter, Miss Elizabeth Davis of Greenville and her son, Robert Harding Davis of Port Arthur, Texas, remained at her bedside during the three weeks she spent there. Doctors held no hopes for her recovery and she was brought home on Saturday before her death.
"Miss Lil", as she was affectionately called by a host of friends, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Seale. She lived all her life in, or within a very short distance of the home in which she was born. About 45 years ago, she was married to Porter Davis, deputy Chancery Clerk, who died a year ago the past April. When very young, she joined the Methodist Church and remained a faithful and active member until her final illness. Every Sunday she was at her place in the choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, and until recent years took part in social and club activities. She had been a charter member of the Music Club and a member of the Twentieth Century Club. For several years she clerked in Rubels' Store and her efficiency and friendliness added many friends to the wide circle she had had since her childhood.
In addition to her son and daughter, Mrs. Davis leaves a sister, Mrs. Sarah Smith, with whom she made her home and two grandchildren. All of these with the exception of her grandchildren were here for the service.
