GLENWOOD OPINION-TRIBUNE DATED THURS., JULY 17, 1952: Mrs. Lulu M. Dean passed away at her home in Glenwood Friday evening July 11. Funeral services were conducted at Reid's Chapel Monday afternoon, July 14, at 2:30 o'clock when the Rev. Lawrence Murphy, pastor of the Congregational church officiated. Mrs. R. O. Wimer was the musician playing hymns and selections chosen by Mrs. Dean herself, sometime ago. Serving as casket bearers were Whitney Gillilland, John Wright, Clyde Rhoads, Edwin Carter, Gerald Fickel and A. C. Buch. Interment was made in Glenwood cemetery. Mrs. Dean was born in Pacific City on July 7, 1869 and was the daughter of Wm. Clay and Sarah Elizabeth DeLashmutt. She was the eldest of five children, two of whom preceded her in death; a sister, Ola and a brother Lynn. On June 15, 1898 whe was united in marriage to Chadwick E. Dean, lawyer and banker who preceded her in death in 1932. She is survived by one son Leonard C. Dean, one grandson, John C. Dean both of Glenwood; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Stone, Phoenix, Arizona, and a brother Ernest DeLashmutt of Pacific Junction. Mrs. Dean attended Pacific City school, Glenwood High School, Grinnell College and was graduated from Tabor College; later teaching in the Pacific City and Glenwood Schools. She was a member of PEO, Eastern Star, Woman's Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devout member of the Congregational Church for the past 64 years, and derived great pleasure in the teaching of her Sunday School class of young people. She was an influece on their lives and up to the time of her death kept in touch with many of them.To know Mrs. Dean was to love her. Her interests were many in family and community. She was always striving to make the world a better place in which to live. She lived her religion every hour of each day, but her kindness, consideration, patience and tolerance of others. She saw only the good in her fellow man---always put others before self, and was a shiring example of everything fine and beautiful on this earth.
