Robert Frederick 1921 ~ 2021
Robert Frederick Daynes was born on May 22, 1921, in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Frederick Daynes and Mabel Pearl (Anderson) Daynes. Bob passed away on August 16, 2021, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Bob sorely missed his eternal companion, Shari Jeanette (Wilcox) Daynes, who passed five years earlier. He is survived by his four daughters and two sons, Deborah Purdon (Douglas), Shari Weber (Garth), Katherine Broadbent (David), Heidi Darley (David), Fred Daynes (Laurie), and Richard Daynes (Teri), 28 grandchildren, and 57 great grandchildren. Bob's wish before he died was to reach the age of 100, which he celebrated on May 22nd, surrounded by family and friends at a "Roaring 20s" birthday party. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brothers and sisters, Jean, Marie, Arline, Jack, and Lincoln.
Robert was born and raised in Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High and the University of Utah. Bob apprenticed with his father at the Daynes Jewelry stores and eventually took over the business as a third-generation owner in 1955. Robert's grandfather John Frederick Nicholas Daynes started the business and was the watchmaker and jeweler to Brigham Young. The building at 128 S. Main Street, a Utah historical building, is still known as the "Daynes Jewelry Building" which was the first jewelry store in Utah. In his spare time, Bob loved scouting, traveling with the Tabernacle Choir, and camping at Tony Grove lake and other local spots with his family in their pop-up camper. Bob had a beautiful singing voice and sang with the Tabernacle Choir for over 30 years. Robert and Shari were active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Bob served a mission in the Eastern States and later served an inner-city mission and at the Conference Center with his wife.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. August 26, 2021, at the Union 5th Ward chapel, 7784 S. Highland Dr., SLC, UT. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m
