Christopher Derbyshire is listed as one of the Pioneer founders of Kenosha, Wisconsin, settling in Pleasant Prarie, WI by 1836. The first election was held in the "Schoolhouse at the Rapids of Root River" in the town of Racine, county of Racine, Wisconsin Territory. 4 April 1837. Christopher's son, Sidney S. Derbyshire was elected School Commissioner.

In the summer of 1835, Christopher Derbyshire hosted a "Temperance Meeting" in his home in Pleasant Prarie, Wisconsin. In the book; "Collections" by the State Historical society of Wisconsin, it is written of that Sunday afternoon; "A good congregation was present and at the close of the address, forty-five persons gave up their names to a pledge of total abstinance from all intoxicating drinks."
