John Lincoln Broughton

CANTON, TEXAS-Services for John Lincoln Broughton, 90, Balch Springs, formerly of Canton and Wills Point, are scheduled for 4 p. m. Thursday at Hilliard Funeral Home, Van, Texas, with the Rev. Jack Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Cox Cemetery, Canton, Texas.
Mr. Broughton died June 8, 2008, in Mesquite, Texas. He was born November 5, 1917, in Brownwood to the late Samuel Broughton and Isabelle Huffman.
He had been a resident of Balch Springs for the past three years, having lived in Canton and Wills Point. He was a member of Hickory Tree Baptist Church, Balch Springs, and was licensed to preach. He retired in 1981 from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier.
He also served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War and traveled as a speaker for Texas Alcohol Narcotics Education for more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Chennault.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Broughton, Balch Springs; son, Gary Chennault, Berryville, Arkansas; daughter, Susie Knox, Mesquite; brother, Walton Broughton, Fort Worth; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
