Funeral services for Gordon A. Riley, of Duncan, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Meadowbrook Missionary Baptist Church, in Quinlan, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, Texas.
Gordon was born on April 9, 1929, to Gordon and Lillian Riley in Lubbock, Texas. At six months of age, his family moved to Martins Mill. At 7 years of age, they moved to Athens, Texas, and when he was 12, they moved to Dallas. Gordon graduated from Adamson High School in 1948 and immediately joined the Navy.
He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Korean war. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in July 1952, Gordon entered the ministry and went to Henderson, Texas to attend Texas Baptist Institute and Seminary.
On April 24, 1953, he married his love, Phyllis Joanne Pasanen. They moved to the Northwest where Gordon worked as a missionary pastor for over 20 years in Washington and Oregon State, before returning to Texas where he continued in Ministry. In 2006 he retired from pastoring and moved to Duncan. Although retired, he continued in ministry until his health failed.
Survivors include Phyllis "Joanne," his wife of 58 years; four daughters, Ellen and her husband Bill Katka of Dublin, N.H., Carol and her husband Pedro Olivas of Gonzalez, La., Linda Andres of Winnipeg, Canada, and Julie and her husband Robert Hively; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Toni Riley of Frisco, Texas, and Bill and Kayla Riley of Silverdale, Wash.; 20 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Burial will be at Holly Springs cemetery in Martins Mill.
