Newana Gwen Holifield

(21 Aug 1946 - 7 Jul 2012)

Gwen Holifield Sanders, 65, of Laurel, Mississippi, formerly of Sibley, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 7, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She will always be remembered for her courage, strength and love and will always be loved by her children, family and friends.
She was a very loving and dedicated mom to her children and always put them first. She unselfishly dedicated her body to UMC for cancer research and also donated her cornea with the hope it may give someone the gift of sight.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, G.D. and Mary Holifield; her loving husband, Thomas E. Sanders; her sister, Janice Martin; and her brother, Howard Holifield.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Holder and husband, David of Laurel, Mississippi; son, Mark Dykes and wife, Marcy of Shreveport; her beloved dog, Rufus; her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Betty  Sanders of Sibley; sister-in-law, Maude James of Minden; and a host of nieces and nephews. She left behind her special and long-time friends, Don and Donnis Walters of Moselle, Mississippi.
The family would like to thank the third floor nurses and staff at SCRMC for the exceptional and loving care given their loved one during her last days. At a later date, a celebration/memorial will be given in honor of Mrs. Sanders.
Donations may be made in memory of Gwen Sanders to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tribute #31224500, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148.
