James Kermit Pearson, Sr. (November 1, 1923 - July 13, 2009)
James Kermit Pearson, Sr., age 85, of Tuscaloosa, died July 13, 2009, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel with John Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation with the body lying in state will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Walter Pearson and Eula Matthews Pearson; his siblings, Verna Mae Partrich, Louise Herrington, Walter Earnest Pearson, and Jack Houston Pearson; and his son, Steven Hobson Pearson.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Franks Pearson of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his daughters, Darien House (Gary) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Karen Jarman of Birmingham, Ala.; his son, Jamey Pearson (Flo) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his sister, Kathleen Pearson Gibbons of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; his grandchildren, Gary L. House, Jr. (Jan) of Tuscaloosa, Patrick House of Birmingham, Justin House of Tuscaloosa, Daniel House of Tuscaloosa, Allan Jarman (Lori) of Jasper, Kevin Jarman of Jasper, Jenny Doerr (Ross) of Northport, P.J. Pearson (Nicole) of Northport, Lee Pearson (Leesa) of Northport, John Pearson of Tuscaloosa, and Fran Pearson of Tuscaloosa; and his great-grandchildren, Alayna House, Hunter Doerr, Kaylee Doerr, Rhett Doer, and A.J. Jarman.
Mr. Pearson was born and raised in the Duncanville community. Throughout his life, he served in the US Navy during WWII, was a pilot for the University of Alabama and Gulf States Paper Corp., and was a member of the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame. However, his most noted achievement was his 58 years of marriage and being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Gary Jr., Pat, Justin, Daniel, Allan, Kevin, P.J., Lee, and John.
Honorary pallbearers are friends and relatives of the Duncanville community, Woodrow Sumner, Elzie Parker, Mr. Hale, Jeral Wood, Grady and Beatrice Pearson, members of the Duncanville Baptist Church, Pepsi Cola Softball Team, members of West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame, staff and residents of Skyland Oaks Assisted Living, staff and employees of Hospice of West Alabama, Robin Elliot, Dr. John Summerford, and Deloris Sargent.
