Elmer Joy Norris

Elmer was a retired computer programmer. He was a former member and ordained ruling elder of First Presbyterian Church, Alamogordo, and their selection for delegate from Pecos Valley Presbytery to General Assembly in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1963. He served two terms as moderator of Pecos Valley Presbytery. He was a delegate to a Presbyterian Peacemaking Conference in New York City. He was a "rockhound" and jewelry-maker, and a lifetime member of American Council of the Blind. He taught chess at Boys and Girls Club and at Chaparral Junior High School.
Survivors include children Elizabeth (Thomas) Hoffmann, David (Melinda) Norris, M. Allen (Cathy) Norris, grandchildren Dan (Kathy) Hoffmann, Deborah Porter, Megan Norris, and Christopher Norris, and great-grandchildren Eli, Ava, and Adelyn Hoffmann and Colton and Jacob Porter; stepdaughters Linda Richardson, Trella Bell, Tracy Bell, and Kristine Boykin; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Norris, son James Norris, wife Edith C. Norris, wife Wanda J. Norris, and sister Evangeline Best.
