Jean Boartfield Harris, 80, of Ocean Isle Beach passed away, October 24, 2009 at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Harris was born on October 27, 1928. She was the daughter of the late William and Lurlene Boartfield, of Sumter, SC.
Prior to retiring in Ocean Isle Beach, NC in 1992 she and her family resided in Greenville, SC.
She was a 1949 graduate of Limestone College where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. She was a recipient of the "Alumnus
of the Year" at Limestone College in 1977.
Mrs. Harris was a member of several civic groups and organizations, including: Past President of the Limestone College Alumni
Association; Board of Trustees at Limestone College; Ikebana International-Wilmington Chapter; Long Bay Garden Club, Shallotte;
Yaupon Garden Club, N. Myrtle Beach,SC; Greenville Garden Club, SC; Clarice Wilson Garden Club, Greenville, SC; and The Garden Clubs of
North & South Carolina; and a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Greenville, SC.
She was also a nationally accredited "Master Flower Show Judge" and "Landscape Design Master Critic." In addition to gardening and flower
arranging, her passions also included world travel.
Surviving her are her husband, Erwin O. Harris of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, her daughter, Jeannie H. Harrell also of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, and
grandson, Harris C. Ligon of Clovis, NM.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 27th in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens Columbarium by the Rev. John
Causey, of the Shallotte Presbyterian Church, where she was a member.
