Henry Cecil Herren

Son of Henry Alexander Herren and Maude Pearl Deese. Husband of Lois Beatrice Shirley
Served in the USMCR in World War II ... received purple heart. Was wounded in the battle of Iwo Jima. Cecil was drafted into the Navy but when he reported for duty he was chosen for the Marine Corp because when the new Navy recruits were asked to volunteer for the Corp no one did ... so they took the first ten alphabetically which included the H's.
Funeral services for Henry Cecil Herren, 43, of Arab will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Spigener-Brown Service Chapel with Masonic graveside services to follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Herren died Sunday morning in an Arab Hospital after a brief illness. He was a World War II veteran and a Mason. A native of Tuscaloosa County, he had lived in Arab the last nine months.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Shirley Herren of Arab, two sons, Bobby Herren and Kenny Herren, both of Arab, a daughter, Mrs. Cecilia Reece of Tuscaloosa, his mother, Mrs. Pearl Gore of Tuscaloosa; two brothers, Floyd Herren and Alonzo Herren, both of Tuscaloosa; a sister, Mrs. Saby Roycroft of Bellville, N.J., and a grandchild.
Active pallbearers will be Masons.
