Individual Details
Jane Malcom
(13 Jul 1915 - 10 Jun 2016)
Jane Fletchall, 100, of Bloomington passed away on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Bell Trace Health and Living Center. Jane was born in 1915 in Bluffton, Indiana to Zander E. and Hazel (Zoe) Malcolm.
Jane graduated from Bluffton High School in 1932. As a teen she swam competively and taught swimming to pay for college expenses. She went to IU where she was elected secretary of her freshman class. She met her future husband that year and they were married in 1935. His corporate jobs took them to Chicago, Minnesota, California, and back to Chicago.
Retirement in 1972 allowed them to return to Bloomington and their beloved Indiana University. Both embraced the change in lifestyle and took advantage of all that was offered.
Jane was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was active in her Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Conversation Club, Investment Club, and IU Alumni Affairs. In 1993, she was given the Gertrude Rich Award by the IU Alumni Association.
She enjoyed her many travels on alumni trips to the far corners of the earth. Especially memorable was going to China in the late 70's with one of the first tourist groups and walking on the Great Wall – probably in high heels! Also memorable was riding an elephant and a camel.
Surviving are her daughter, Ann Morine and son-in-law, Don Morine, granddaughters, Emily Traycoff (Jason) and Andrea McHugh (Brian) and great-great granddaughter, Molly McHugh and great grandson, Matthew McHugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and beloved husband of 71 years, Eugene D. Fletchall.
