Lawrence Jay Dies in Florida Following Stroke

---Lawrence M. Jay, 56, for several years a leading New York city banker, native of Michigan and well known in Marshall, having visited here frequently since he was twelve years old, died at his home in Palm Beach, Fla., at 3:00 a.m. today.
---Mr. Jay, who was born in Sturgis, suffered a stroke of paralysis a few days ago.
---Born in Sturgis, Mr. Jay moved to Chicago at the age of ten, and was educated at Hyde Park high school and the University of Chicago. He was graduated from the latter institution in 1899, and with the aid of President Harper of the University, obtained a position in the treasury department.
---He was subsequently appointed statistician of the Philippine commission at Manila, and held that position about three years. Returning to this country, he became identified with the National City Bank, and in 1908 was sent to London, Eng., for the purpose of opening a branch office in that city.
---Mr. Jay remained in London until 1915, and later became affiliated with the International Banking Corp., a part of the National City Institution, and eventually made vice-president. He had not been active since 1927, due to ill health and in recent years had made his home in Palm Beach.
---Surviving, besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Gordon Carrothers, of London, and two sons, Halford and Rutledge, who have been attending school in New York this winter, and a sister, Miss Mabel P. Jacobs, of Marshall. Funeral arrangements will be announced tomorrow.
