Maude Stone

Married first ca. 1907 to William Franklin "Frank" GREER, by whom she had at least four children. After Frank died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in December 1916, Maude married second to Marion W. GALLOPS, son of Homer Franklin & Annie Gerina (SIZEMORE) GALLOPS.

Per Britton & Dobbs Funeral Home Records, 1889-1971 (transcribed by Patsy Daniel Wright, 2010), p. 476: Mrs. M. W. GALLOPS, residing at 609 Second Avenue (Columbus), died 02 JUL 1925, aged 33 years, 0 months, and 24 days (cause of death not reported - physician PENNINGTON); buried 04 JUL 1925 in Chattahoochee County, Georgia.

"Deaths and Funerals... MRS. M. W. GALLOPS // As a result of heart trouble, Mrs. M. W. GALLOPS died suddenly Thursday night at the family residence at 609 Second avenue, at the age of 33 years. // Besides her husband, Mrs. GALLOPS is survived by two sons, Luther and Eddie GALLOPS, and a daughter, Miss Belle GREER, of Columbus; two brothers, Simmie STOVES [sic - STONE], of San Francisco, Cal. [sic - only one brother named], and a sister, Mrs. R. G. DRAKE, of Columbus. She was a devout member of the Mount Zion Baptist church. // Funeral services will be held from the family residence Saturday morning, following which interment will be in Johnson's cemetery, 18 miles east of the city on the old Box Springs road." "Deaths and Funerals... Mrs. H.[sic] W. GALLOPS // The funeral services of Mrs. M. W. GALLOPS were held Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the late residence, number 609 Second avenue. // Rev. R. M. RIDGON of the Eastern Heights Baptist church officiated at the residence. After the services at the house, the funeral party went by motor to Johnson's cemetery, eighteen miles east of the city on the old Box Springs road where the committal services were held, same being condcuted by Rev. W. F. ALLISON of the Mount Zion Baptist church. // The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: William ROSS, P. M. BROOKS, H. F. STAPLETON, J. M. LLOYD, J. D. BROOKS and H. W. COOK." This GALLOPS family are not listed in the 1923 or 1925 R. L. Polk's city directory for Columbus, Ga.; 609 Second Avenue was owned or occupied by S. H. HARRIS in 1923 and E. A. GEHM in 1925, so perhaps was a rental house.
