Freda Marie Henderson

SHREVEPORT, LA - Freda Marie Henderson Stephenson died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, with her family by her side in Shreveport, LA. A memorial service celebrating her life will be Friday, January 21, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member. Officiating will be Rev. Tom Howe. Friends are invited to visit with the family immediately following in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
Freda was born on July 25, 1931 in Monroe, LA to Stacy and Viola Henderson. She spent her childhood in Hot Springs, AR. At 18, she moved to Shreveport where she met William "Bill" Lane Stephenson, Jr., her husband of 57 years. Freda and Bill raised their family in Shreveport.
Freda will always be remembered as a devout Christian with the deepest loyalty to her family and friends. Her generous spirit thrived by sharing her love of Christ, the arts, golf, strength, laughter, and tenderness to her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother with whom many cherished memories are shared. Freda was one of God's dearest gifts and taught us that in the end what really matters is the love you give and the love you are blessed to receive.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Lane Stephenson, Jr., and sister, Nora Henderson. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy McGovern and husband, Mike of Houston, TX; son, Lane Stephenson and wife, Sally of Frierson, LA; daughter, Karon Miller and husband, Mike of Coloma, MI; grandchildren, Rane Stephenson Lallier and husband, Josh, Lane Stephenson, Corrie McGovern and husband, James McGavick, Brad McGovern, Sarah Miller and Stephen Miller; great grandchildren, Landry Lallier and Katherine Lallier; brother, Stacy Henderson; sister, Nell DeYoung; and sisters-in-law, Ann Johnston and Janet Stephenson.
The family would like to thank all the nurses at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Dr. Borne, Dr. Nguyen, Dr. Haynie, and Mr. Sonny Moss.
The family suggests that donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118.
