William Lane "Bill" Stephenson II

SHREVEPORT, LA – God called home one of his faithful servants, William L. "Bill" Stephenson, Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at his home with his family by his side. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2007, at Christ United Methodist Church, 1204 Crabapple Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118 where he was a charter member. Officiating will be his cousin, Rev. Coyle Stephenson, assisted by Rev. Ellen Monteguedo, associate pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, and Chaplain Dana Casey of Willis-Knighton Hospice. Friends are invited to visit with the family immediately following at the church Fellowship Hall.
Bill was born May 1, 1928 in Shreveport and was a lifelong resident. An active member of Christ United Methodist Church, he founded two Sunday School classes and was a member of the Joy Class and past Board Chairman and Lay Leader. Bill was a member of the Queensboro Masonic Lodge; Southern Hills Masonic Lodge; York Rite & Scottish Rite Mason; El Karubah Shriner; Mithra Grotto, serving as Monarch twice; co-organizer and first President of Brookwood Athletic Club serving in the late 1950's; charter member of Shreveport/Bossier Executive Association; associate member of American Associated General Contractors since 1951; organizer and first President of Shreveport Floor Covering Association; charter member of Sports Foundation; and was honored to be chosen as Mr. Shreveport in 2003. Bill was founder and owner of Stephenson Floors and sold his business April 1, 2001.
He was an inspiration to his family and each have beautiful memories to cherish; his wife of 57 years, Freda Henderson Stephenson; daughter, Kathy McGovern and husband, Mike; son, Lane Stephenson and wife, Sally; daughter, Karon Miller and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Rane Stephenson Lallier and husband, Josh, Lane Stephenson, Corrie McGovern and husband, James McGavick, Brad McGovern, Sarah Miller and Stephen Miller; great grandchildren, Joshua Landry Lallier and Katherine Landry; brother, John Stephenson; sister, Ann Johnston; sister-in-law, Janet Stephenson; and cousins, Daniel Pipkin, Dr. Clyde Newman, James Stephenson, Edgar Stephenson, Rev. Coyle Stephenson, Sue Kellogg, Louis Stephenson and Harry Stephenson.
The family would like to thank all the nurses at Willis-Knighton Hospice, especially Suzanne Wallace, Dr. Charles Hargon and Dr. Lane Rosen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials are made to the Joyce-Ravenna Fund at the Community Foundation of Shreveport, 401 Edwards, Shreveport, LA 71101 or the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 929, Ruston, LA 71273.
