Talmage B. DeWitt, 88 of Lubbock passed away December 22, 2013. Talmage was born December 11, 1925 to parents Talmage and Allie DeWitt. He was a graduate of Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University. Talmage grew up working in the family business, DeWitt Electric, and served in the US Navy during World War II.
He was a well known architect and engineer. Designing numerous schools, hospitals and government buildings in the South Plains, including Coronado High School, Seton Hospital in Austin and a previous Lubbock City Hall and was a longtime member of American Institute Of Architects.
He was a wonderful artist in numerous mediums including stained glass, clay, pen & ink and watercolor. Talmage was an avid reader. Using audio books after he became visually impaired, a disability he handled with grace and dignity. He was a longtime member of Broadway Church of Christ.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy DeWitt, of Lubbock; five grandchildren, Zeke and Tanya Bidwell of Denton, Marc and Jena Johnson of Ft. Worth, John Frier of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jessica Alexander of Lubbock and Taylor Morrow of Ft. Worth; as well as four great-grandchildren; Lillie, William Jr. and Hunter Graham Alexander and Jack Johnson.
The family wishes to especially thank cousin Martha Smith Vaughan for many years of love, support and assistance to Vada and Talmage. Also many thanks to special friend Cathy Williams for her caring and support.
Those who preceded him in death are his parents, Talmage and Allie DeWitt; wife of 70 years Vada Lois DeWitt, a daughter, Gail DeWitt Frier; and a great-grandchild, Marc Johnson Jr.
A visitation will take place Friday, 6pm at Sanders Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 28, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Sanders Funeral Home with interment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to Pet Haven, 4501 North FM 1729, Lubbock, TX 79403.
