Family visitation for Darrell Martin Sr., 77 of Portales, will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday September 6, 2013 at Wheeler Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday September 7, 2013 at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Jared Cole and Don Thomas officiating. Burial will follow with Jory Stockard, Jason Couch, Steven Couch, Bobby Martin, Justin Cole and Jared Cole as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers for Darrell will be Darrell R. Martin Jr., Christopher Rousseau II, Jay Cole and other grandchildren.
Darrell was born on January 29, 1936 in San Jon, New Mexico to Aaron and Velma Martin.
He went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2013 in Portales.
As a child he and his family lived in San Jon, Tucumcari, Portales and Bakersfield, California. He worked during most of his childhood to help his mom support his brothers and sisters. He worked 14 years for Swift and Company, then worked for Roosevelt County Road Department until his retirement. He also owned his own business: Martins Pumping. His passion for life were the ones that he loved.
He married Julia Yvonna Grubbs on December 6, 1954. Together they had five children: Darrell R. Martin, Mary Stockard, Vonnie Rousseau, Bobby Martin and Dolores Cole. Yvonna preceded him in death November 11,1 987.
A few years later he married Lela Elizabeth Smith whom he loved dearly for 20 years. She then preceded him in death October 19,2010.
Darrell was preceded in death by his father Aaron Martin, his mother Velma Martin, his son Bobby Martin, his daughter Dolores Cole, his wife Yvonna Martin, his wife Elizabeth Martin, his brothers: Richard, Bobby, Marvin and Ervin Martin, his sister Elnora Asborn, his granddaughter Kacee Lovato and his son-in-law David Couch.
Darrell is survived by his children Mary and Jody Stockard of Brownfield, Texas, Vonnie and Chris Rousseau of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Darrell R. Martin of Wolforth, Texas, Jesse Painter and Jackie McCoy of Paris, Texas.
His grandchildren: Darrell R. Martin Jr., Fallon Jernigan, Jory Stockard, Jason Couch, Steven Couch, Christopher Rousseau II, Bobby Martin, Amanda Callaway, Justin Cole, Jared Cole and Jay Cole also survive him.
Also surviving him are his great grandchildren, Felicity Martin, Judah Martin, Aaron Jernigan, Jessica Jernigan, Briana Jernigan, Lenisa Couch, Kyle Couch, Adam Derrick, Keaton Hollaway, Payton Callaway, Tatum Callaway, Abigail Callaway, Genevieve Cole, and Jiovanni Cole.
