Nannie was born to Jesse Clemens Stewart and Ada Scott (Rust) Stewart on July 16 1890. She married Thomas Vernor Smith(1890-1964), a university professor, an author, congressman for the state of Illinois and a military veteran who is buried in Arlington National cemetery. They had a son, Gayle Stanley born Jan 12, 1923-Feb 23, 1987. Nannie died in February 1978 and one daughter, Nancy Stewart Smith Kemppinen.
