Thomas Vernor Smith

(26 Apr 1890 - 24 May 1964)

US Congressman. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1915, he served as a Private in the United States Army during World War I. An author, editor, and University of Chicago faculty member, he served in the Illinois State Senate and was elected to the United States Congress from Illinois, serving from 1939 to 1941. He served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel (later Colonel), from 1943 to 1946. Following World War II, he resumed writing and teaching at the University of Syracuse.
