James married 1) Mary V. "Mollie" Smith (1861-1886) on Jan. 17, 1878, in Hunt County, TX.

• Lura Hart Kuykendall (1882-1928)

James married 2) Elizabeth A. "Betty" Beavers (1866-1928) on Aug. 8, 1886, in Hunt County, TX.

After James Hart died in 1889, Elizabeth married Benjamin Mings.
