Allene (Hollis) Johns, 79, of Diboll, was born January 18, 1932 in Possum's Walk (Trinity County, Texas), the daughter of the late Viva Viola (Nash) and Silas Hollis. She passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in a local hospice facility.
Mrs. Johns was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was retired from AT&T as a telephone operator. She was an artist, primarily of landscapes, and enjoyed all ceramics, but her specialty was making ceramic dolls. She was an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Ray and Evelyn Johns of Diboll; grandchildren, Thomas Ray Johns, Jr. of Diboll, Matt A. Johns of Beaumont, Angie Bush of Willis, Peter "PJ" Johns of San Antonio, and Andrew A. Johns of Beaumont; 4 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Maureen Watkins of Flower Mound; sister, Murlene Honer of Conroe; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johns was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William James Johns in 2007; and a son, Hollis Glenn Johns.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Thomas Johns, Jr., Matt A. Johns, Peter "PJ" Johns and Andrew A. Johns; and nephews, Jim Brimer and Nelson Brimer.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in the Ryan Chapel Cemetery in Diboll.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
Services have been placed in the trust of Gipson Funeral Home.
