Individual Details

Frances Ella Maricle

(8 Dec 1871 - 17 Jul 1943)

Frances Ella Mericle Hollis was fifth of the thirteen children of Simeon M. Mericle Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Willis. She was born December 8, 1871 in the tiny community of Muleshoe, Louisiana. She married Siamon Samuel "Sime" Hollis on February 12, 1886 in Trinity County, Texas. They had fourteen children: William Allen, Raymond Melvin, Angenette "Nettie", Emma Lou "Emmer", Mervin, Viola, Simmie, Mary, Harvey, Bessie May, Mintie Margaret, Silous, Samuel J. "Sammie" and Nancy Jane "Cricket". She was widowed when Sime died in the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918. She was then briefly married to William Collins Goins but she found this marriage unhappy and left after a few years. She died at the home of her daughter and son in law, Cricket and John Lee on July 17, 1943, aged 71 yrs. Sadly, only three of Frances' fourteen children outlived her; and only two, her oldest daughter Nettie and youngest daughter Cricket lived past the age of 49, both reaching old age - Nettie 85 yrs. and Cricket 89 yrs.
Of note: the name Mericle is also spelled Maricle depending on the branch of the family. It is also often misrecorded as Moricle or Miracle; which is how the name is pronounced.
