Mrs. J. L. Powell, sister of C.W. Caldwell of Sumner, was dead on arrival Wednesday, about 3:20 a.m., at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, where she lived at 8318 Triton. Her death was due to natural causes.
The former Miss Sarah Caldwell was born 30 Aug 1884 in Newberry, SC, a daughter of James Edward Caldwell and Elizabeth Watson. She was a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy Lamar Chapter #258 based on the records of her father, James Edward Caldwell, Co E, 3rd Reg't, SC, C.S.A.
Funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Sep 15, at 3:00 p.m. in Gene Roden & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Paris. Burial to be made in Meadowbrook Gardens, east of town.
Mrs. Powell, who lived in Paris before moving to Dallas, leaves these children, Capt. C.N. Powell, on armed forces duty, Jean L. Powell of Paris, and Mrs. W.G. Williams of Mesquite; brother, C.W. Caldwell of Sumner; stepchildren, James Powell of College Station, Clovis Powell of Brookston, Mrs. E.N. Hogue of Pittsburgh, PA, Mrs. A.L. Hogue of Valliant, OK, Mrs. Elic Ellis of Strawn, Mrs. Alice Riley of New Jersey, and Mrs. R.A. Horton of Dallas.
