Betty Little, 85, of McAlester, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at a local nursing center. Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Altus, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Essie (Couch) Southall. She grew up in Altus and moved to Oklahoma City as a teenager. Shortly after high school graduation, she met "Spec" Little and they were married Jan. 15, 1949. They began their marriage and their family in Oklahoma City with the birth two children. They moved to McAlester in 1956 and in 1957 had a daughter. She enjoyed her church and church family at First Baptist Church of McAlester. She served in many capacities in the church, especially enjoyed being with young people. She worked for Chester Born Accounting Services and then Miller Glass Company. She also enjoyed her flowerbeds in her yard. Survivors include her husband, H.L. "Spec" Little, of McAlester; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Ron Kurtz, Irving, Texas, and Sherre and David Land, of Ponca City; one son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Kay Little, of Bartlesville; seven grandchildren, Amy Kurtz Chambers, Lindsey Kurtz Thompson, Josh Kurtz, Jeremy Little, Steve Little, Andrea Land Ryan and Erin Land; eight great-grandchildren, and her extended family and caregivers, Neil and Mary Leffler. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Pat Schumann. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of McAlester. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
