Josephine Wadkins
(11 Jul 1931 - 31 Mar 2010)
Graham, OK — Services for Josephine "Josie" Wadkins Young, 78, of Healdton will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Graham Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Graham Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastors Jamie Griffin and Derrick Bolin.
Josie was born on July 11, 1931, to William Edwards and Jewell "Marney" Wadkins in Countyline, Oklahoma. She departed this life on March 31, 2010, at the Healdton Nursing Home.
Josie graduated from Alma High School in 1949, and then married the love of her life, Junior Young on July 24, 1949, in Gainesville, Texas. Their union resulted in three children, Jerry Wayne, Troy Lynn, and Patty Jo.
Josie worked 30 years at the Ardmore Air Park for several different companies from sewing tents for the Army, making communications systems for the Marines, to building wire assemblies for F-16 aircraft. Before retiring she cared for the mentally and physically handicapped for seven years at the Pauls Valley State School.
She loved camping, fishing and cooking for her family. She could out-fish most men and won many fishing tournaments. She grew up squirrel hunting with her brothers and hunting possums at night. She took many baths in the old wooden watering tanks, she would wake you up at day light and go run trout lines no matter how cold the water, and wade as deep as she could. She didn't even have a boat.
She loved hunting and would go to the mountains and sleep in her old green pickup and camper, wandering through woods she had never been and find her way back. Sometimes with a deer in tow. She loved to be outdoors. Birds were her passion, she fed, collected and could tell you every species there was.
She was strong-willed and independent and provided for her family well. She spoke her mind and earned your respect. She was the matriarch of her family and held them together and now passes into the next.
Preceding Josie in death were her parents; her husband, Junior Young; son, Troy Young; grandson, Joey Young; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Young; sister, Edna Jackson; and brothers, Edward and Tommy Wadkins.
Josie is survived by her son, Jerry Young of Healdton, Okla.; daughter, Patty Neher of Graham, Okla.; sisters, Karron Corbell of Roswell, N.M., and Clara Downey of Pernell, Okla.; brothers, Ronnie Wadkins of Countyline, Okla., and William Edward Wadkins Jr., of Artesia, N.M.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones; and extended family members.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Mical Delaney, Allen Hunt, Ted Childers, Tadd Powell, Steve Hunt, Chris Young, Hunter Childers, Austin Childers and Brandon Hunt
