Graveside services for John Everet Able, 77, 2605 Oregon St., are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Carlsbad Cemetery with the Rev. Rusty Smith of Guadalupe Christian Camp officiating.
Mr. Able died Saturday (July 10, 1993) at Lakeview Christian Home North Canal Unit. He was born June 8, 1916, in the foothills near Queen, N. M., and attended rural schools. While ranching the the Guadalupes, he married Mary Ellen Sims Jan. 30, 1942, and they ranched in Eddy County before moving to Lea County in the late 1940s.
In the early 1960s, the couple moved to southwestern New Mexico to ranch, then moved to Sierra County for health reasons. They returned to Carlsbad in 1981.
He was a member of the Guadalupe Christian Camp Church, IOOF Lodge, Farmers Bureau, Cattle Growers Association and Sierra County Citizens Organization, and was a Eunice Baptist Youth Group Leader.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Able, of Carlsbad; three sons, John Richard Able of Hillsboro, N.M., James Murphy Able of Lake Arthur, N.M., and Wesley Able of Rattlesnake Springs, N.M.; three daughters, Sharon Stell of Artesia, Sherrilyn Arredeondo and Norma Beth Lang, both of Lordsburg, N.M.; three brothers, Roy DeMoss of Hobbs, Raymond DeMoss of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dole DeMoss of Olympia, Wash.; one sister, Dorothy Estes of Aho, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
