BEN E HALVERSON SERVICES TO BE HELD HERE TOMORROW
Services will be held tomorrow for one of the Valley's best known pioneers when the family and friends of Ben Edward Halverson will gather for a last tribute to the early resident.
Mr. Halverson died Friday at the age of 78. His home was at 17809 Merridy St. Northridge.
Widow, Children Survive
Services are planned for 10 a.m. at Praiswater Funeral Home, 5849 Van Nuys Blvd. The Rev. Franklin Green of the First Methodist Church of Van Nuys will be officiating and interment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth.
Survivors are Mr. Halverson's widow Iris, two daughters, Mrs. Maude Clodfelter of 8229 Sepulveda Blvd.,Van Nuys, and Mrs. Iris Osmun of Minneapolis.
Also surviving are sons George Edward of 8953 Burnett Ave., Sepulveda, and Lindsey R of 5636 Colbath Ave., Van Nuys.
Mr. Halverson was born in Neeley, Neb., and spent most of his childhood in Hammond, La. He was married there in 1903 and two of his children were born in Hammond.
He moved to the Valley in 1911 and was a cement contractor with offices at the corner of Tyrone Ave. and Calvert St. for 50 years. Many miles of sidewalk in Van Nuys still bear his name.
Known in Masonic Circles
Mr. Halverson lived for many years in Van Nuys, moving to Northridge in 1934. At the time of his death, he and Mrs. Halverson were the only charter members of the Methodist Church still attending services.
