Benjamin Lines and his wife, Elizabeth Watts, departed Gravesend, Kent, England, aboard the ship Thomas Harrison on 26 May 1842 with their two sons aged 13 and an infant (Benjamin and John), and two daughters aged 11 and 2 (Sarah Ann and Leah). Also aboard was Benjamin’s older brother Thomas with his family. All of them were from Northamptonshire, England. They had been recommended to receive free passage to the colony at Nelson, New Zealand, by the Reverend S. H. White. Thomas and Benjamin Lines were laborers and lime burners by trade.Death
Benjamin Lines drowned crossing the Wai-iti River on Christmas Day, 1847.Burial
