Orrie Page Hester

Mrs. Orrie N. Ervin, 313 North Guadalupe Street, a prominent resident of Carlsbad for more than 50 years, died this morning at 4 o'clock in Memorial Hospital after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Ervin was born January 14, 1879, at Homer, La. She came to Carlsbad in 1900 as the bride of the late George L. Newton. Mr. Newton owned and operated the Eddy Drug Company until his death in 1905.
Mrs. Ervin later married Dr. L.E. Ervin, a dentist of Carlsbad, who died in 1922.
Mrs. Ervin was a charter member and past worthy matron of the Carlsbad Chapter No. 54, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the First Methodist Church of Carlsbad.
Surviving her are are daughter, Mrs. Howard L. Moore, Carlsbad; two grandchildren, Mrs. Hugh W. Calvert of Carlsbad and Howard L. Moore, Jr., of Amarillo; three great-grandchildren, Michael and Philip Calvert and Ginger Lee Moore.
Funeral rites will be held Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. J.S. Willis, pastor, and W.S. Dando in charge. Burial will be in Carlsbad Cemetery by West Funeral Home.
