Rodney E. Esch of Arlington, died Monday, July 31, 2006, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Interment will be in the Arlington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Reckmeyer Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to services.
Rodney E. Esch was born Dec. 18, 1939, in Danbury to Carl H. and Pauline (Burton) Esch. He attended Red Willow School and graduated in 1957 from Indianola High School. He attended McCook Central College and graduated from Northwest Missouri State College at Maryville, Mo., and participated in basketball and baseball.
He was an industrial arts teacher and taught school for many years at Leon, Iowa, Tarkio, Mo., and Arlington. He then went into business raising veal. He later started his own company, Rosebud Veal Farm at Arlington, which he operated for more than 20 years, selling beef, veal, lamb and other specialty meats.
On Sept. 4, 1965, he married Rose Marie Klaas at McCook. The couple moved to Arlington in 1965. Mr. Esch was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont, where he was a member of the church choir; member of the Midwest Veal Growers Association; National Rifle Association; former member of the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department; former Little League coach and Fremont YMCA basketball coach. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and pilot. He is remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who adored his grandchildren and loved the great outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Khaldon Alfakhri of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; sons and daughter-in-law, Steven Esch of Arlington, and Ryan and Jacqueline Esch of Omaha; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Ila Esch of Homer; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce Esch of Des Moines, Wash., and Karen and Dick Cummins of Indianola; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents. The family plans to establish a memorial in his name.
