Obituary
Zelma "Pauline" Esch died Saturday, July 23, 2005 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 88 years old. Pauline was born on January 30, 1917 in Frontier County, the daughter of Arthur E. and Myrtle Gladys (Branscom) Burton. She grew up in the Zion Hill area, attended country school, and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1935. She taught in a country school in Red Willow County for two years. She married Carl Esch on March 21, 1937 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ash Creek. After their marriage, they farmed north of Red Willow School for two years, then northwest of Danbury for four years, then seven years south of Red Willow until purchasing a farm one mile south of Indianola in 1951. She lived on this farm until 1994 and then moved into Indianola. Pauline was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the Grand Generation. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; one brother, Cecil; and two sisters, Ethel Crocker and Leona Mathana. Survivors include two sons Don Esch and wife, Ila of Homer and Rodney Esch and wife, Rosemary of Arlington; two daughters, Joyce Esch of Des Moines, WA and Karen and husband, Richard Cummins of Indianola; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Letha Hofman of Cheyenne, WY, Betty and husband, Harold Brauer, of Westminster, CO, Lila and husband, Norman Leibrandt of McCook, and Joanne and husband, Don Troyer, of Denver, CO; and one aunt, Doris Peterson of Curtis. Memorials may be given in her name. Funeral service were Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Wahl officiating. Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery. Carpenter Breland was in charge of the arrangements.Endnotes
