Individual Details
William Newton Davis
(24 Feb 1824 - 13 Aug 1893)
Death of William Davis.
William Davis died on Tuesday last at his residence on Nance's Creek, three miles from town, and was buried on Wednesday at Pleasant Gap.
Mr. Davis, who was about 73 years old, was born in Cherokee county, near Rock Run, or was taken there by his parents at an early age; and he came to this immediate neighborhood some thirteen years ago.
Mr. Davis was esteemed as a good neighbor, a good citizen, and an honest man, and no man was held in higher regard in the community in which he lived.
He was a farmer all the days of his life, industrious, intelligent, and successful, and had long been in independent and comfortable circumstances. Mr. Davis had for many years been a member of the Primitive Baptist church, which in this section is not a numerous denomination, but is here and everywhere distinguished by the sturdy integrity and good citizenship of its members. Mr. Davis was a typical Primitive Baptist; and this statement pronounces his eulogy.
