D.C. She is discovered in the will of her mother, Frances Machen in 1827 and in bible records of a nephew, Lewis Machen, who had married a Margaret Machen.
5/8/1776 - 8/24/1777 The Machen's moved from Virginia to South Carolina between these dates since son John was born in SC.
1780-81- served as sergeant in Capt. Moses Wood's company of Horse, Colonel Roebuck's regiment, South Carolina militia, 1780-81. He was born in Virginia; died in Greenville co, S. C.[Old Southern Bible Records, 1974]
He served for 258 days from July 15, 1780. He used part of his pay for 188 acres and balanced to Mr Samuel Earle[S. C. Archives & Records of Leonardo Andrea Genealogical Collection, Machen family, most date c1951]
There are no records Henry's service in the National Archives due to "a fire in Nov. 8, 1800 in the offices occupied by the War Department. Other records were lost in 1814 when public buildings in Washington were ransacked and burned by the British Army. Because of these incidents some Federal pensions were approved for Revolutionary War veterans even though no official documentation of their service exists among the records of the War Department. In such cases, pensions were usually granted based on the authenticity of the affidafits and other supporting evidence submitted by the veteran and others concerning his military service." However, there is a receipt of payment from the State of Carolina for 250 days of service signed by Samuel Earle.

The Citation to administer was read at Reedy River Meeting House the 26th and 27th of Dec. 1793 or 26 & 27 Jan. 1793 and it seems the Jan. [Andrea .. File 5-337 Greenville Co. S. C.]

Will of Henry MachenIn the name of God Amen I Henry Machen of the state of South Carolina and District of Greenville knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die being frail in body and far advanced in years yet blessed by God haveing my perfect mind and senses do ordain this my last will and Testament.Being possessed of a small portion of the goods and chattels of this world I will and devise them in the following manner. Item unto my beloved wife Frances Machen I will and bequeath the use of my Estate both Real and personal during her natural Life after which time I desire that it shall be equally devided amongst my legal hears all except a negro girl named Maria which said girl I will and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Margaret. Exclusive of her equal portiion of the balance of my Estate. I also wish the part of my Estate that will be comeing to James Bothwell to be left to James Greenwood Carter Bothwell. I further desire that each of my children who have left me shall render in a just and true account of what they have received of my Estate and that the amount thereof be deducted from there several portiions. I nominate and appoint Isaiah Cox Francis Machen James McDaniel and James Bothwell Executors of this my last will and Testament. January 14th 1821.
