Omer Schwaller, age 89, of Brainerd died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005 at his home.
Omer Gregory Schwaller was born July 30, 1915 in Brillion, Wis., to Anthony and Anne (Janssen) Schwaller. He graduated from high school in Plymouth, Wis., and began work at the Armour Leather Company in Sheboygan. He was united in marriage to Garnett Dickerson Oct. 8, 1938 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plymouth. As he completed a degree in chemistry from the Pratt Institute in New York, he worked his way up from chemist to general manager at Armour, retiring in 1978. He and Garnett lived in Tennessee the last eight years of his career, where he managed a division of Armour. Following retirement they moved to Zellwood Station, Fla. In 2003 they moved to Woodland Good Samaritan Village, to be near their son’s family. An inspiration and role model for his sons, Omer always found time to balance family and work. Annual fishing trips to northern Wisconsin were enjoyed by the entire family. Omer loved golfing and fishing, and he created and maintained a beautifully landscaped yard.
Omer is survived by Garnett, his treasured wife of 66 years; two sons, Anthony (Renee) Schwaller, of Nisswa, Minn., and Gregory (Laurie) Schwaller, of Three Rivers, Calif.; three grandsons, Christopher (Gina) Schwaller, of South Korea, Matthew (Allison) and their daughter, Kate Schwaller, of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Joshua (Angie) and their son Alex Schwaller, of St. Michael, Minn.. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Merlin and Lando, and a sister, Lauretta.
