Berlon Dale Sanford, age 71 of Mt. Airy, Maryland passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday evening, October 27, 2018 while in the company of his family. He was born on December 5, 1946 and grew up in Tylertown, MS. He moved to Maryland in 1987 to follow his career as a contractor.
"Dale", as most people knew him, will be deeply missed by family and friends who remember him fondly for his loving personality, musical talent, fine craftsmanship and love for the outdoors. Coming from a long line of fine carpenters, Dale was a talented artisan who loved woodworking. He made a fine art out of the carpentry profession and poured his heart and soul into everything that he built. Dale was also a gifted musician and songwriter, performing with several bands over the course of his life. He was blessed with a natural gift and ear for music and could play almost any instrument that was placed in his hands. His musical talent may be best remembered by his role as bassist and singer in Collins Creek Reunion, a bluegrass band from Tylertown, MS in the 1980s. In addition to music, Dale loved to spend time outdoors camping, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Janice Sanford; his children, Laurie Williams (Jim), Gwen Lombardi (Chris), Holly Edens (Richie), Yancey Sanford; his sister, Shirley Alexander (Grady); his grandchildren, Jessica Lombardi, Hope Edens, Nicholas Lombardi, Christina Williams, Michelle Williams, Morgan Edens and Brandon Sanford; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Berl Sanford (Father), Mary Sanford (Mother), Porter Skinner (Step-father) and three siblings, Delores, Carol and David.
Funeral service and visitation will all be held at Union Baptist Church, 345 MS-27, Tylertown, MS 39667
