OBITUARY OF WILLIAM LYMAN DILLINGHAM
William Lyman DILLINGHAM passed from this life on Tuesday, July 31, 1917, after a peaceful, upright existence of 85 years, five months and 20 days. Death came to him at his home in Solomon township, Graham county, Kansas, where he had waited for many years in feeble and worn condition but free from acute suffering and pain.
The deceased was born in Huron county, Ohio, on February 21, 1832. In his childhood days he came with his parents to Indiana and later, to Holt county, Missouri, where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage on August 24, 1851, to Miss Rheuama P. REYNOLDS who was his constant and faithful companion until death claimed her in the month of January, 1913, just a few months short of their 61st wedding anniversary. To this union there were born nine children, two girls died in infancy, one, Harriet, passed away at the age of 16 years, in Hiawatha, and six sons and daughters survive, H. L. DILLINGHAM, of Plainview, Texas; Mrs. Delsa HUFF, of Morland; Mrs. M. S. LUDLOW of Waldo; W. L. DILLINGHAM of Kansas City, Missouri; Dennis J. DILLINGHAM, of Morland, and Mrs. Cora R. SCHILLING, of Hill City.
The deceased removed from Missouri to Hiawatha in 1870, where he resided until 1899 when he came to Graham county. He was a soldier of the Civil war, serving for three years in Company B, Fourth Missouri Regiment, under Captain Blair.
He joined the A. F. & A. M. in Missouri, more than 50 years ago, and was a member of good standing at the time of his demise. He united with the Baptists about 45 years ago and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist church at the time of his death. Of a family of six he was the youngest but was he sole survivor for the past few years.
William Lyman DILLINGHAM lived at peace with all mankind an died leaving only friends behind him, welcoming death as a relief because he believed, with Paul, that "there remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God," The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. McBroom at the DILLINGHAM home after which the members of the Masonic order laid the remains to rest in Mt. Pleasant cemetery with ritualistic rites -- Hill City Republican.
